WL26LY Roof-Mounted Bus Air Conditioner — Split-Unit Architecture Advantage
Architecture review AR-WL26LY | Why the LY split-roof design uses copper-tube coils and how the WL26LY serves 8–10.5 m buses with 28 kW.

1. Split Roof vs Integral Roof — The Design Choice
The WL26LY belongs to the LY split-roof family: the condenser and evaporator sections are laid out as independent sub-assemblies inside one long roof profile, joined by the refrigerant circuit rather than by shared ducting. This gives two practical fleet advantages — modular service access (either section can be opened and repaired without stripping the other) and copper-tube coils on both sides for maximum corrosion margin in humid climates.

3. Copper-Tube Coils — Both Sides
Unlike integral designs that use aluminium parallel-flow on the condenser, the LY family specifies copper-tube fin-and-tube coils on both condenser and evaporator. Copper gives higher corrosion resistance against road salt and coastal air, and — critically — the coils can be repaired locally by any refrigeration shop, whereas aluminium condensers must be replaced.

4. Fan Configuration — 6 + 4
Six ZHF283502 evaporator blowers distribute 4,800 m³/h across the full cabin; four LNF273107C condenser fans provide the idle airflow a split unit needs at bus terminals. The drive train pairs an FKX40-560K / 4PFCY compressor (550/650 cc) with a 2A/2B clutch and SPB belt.

7. Buyer FAQ
Q1. What is the advantage of the split-roof LY design?
Independent condenser/evaporator sections mean modular service access, and copper-tube coils on both sides give superior corrosion resistance plus repairability.
Q2. What buses does the WL26LY fit?
8.0–10.5 m buses and coaches needing 28 kW — a common upgrade path from 20 kW-class units.
Q3. What refrigerant does it use?
R134a with a 12.0 kg factory charge.
Q4. Is the compressor included?
Full kit with FKX40-560K/4PFCY compressor, clutch, belt and alternator; roof-only option available.
Q5. Can the coils be repaired locally?
Yes — copper-tube fin-and-tube coils can be serviced by any refrigeration workshop, unlike aluminium parallel-flow condensers.
